This well-illustrated book allows anyone with common sense, a clean
kitchen, and a closet shelf to grow bumper crops of mushrooms. Besides
step-by-step guides to cultivating four species of psilocybin-containing
mushrooms, the book offers a wealth of additional information, including an

insights into the traditional use of psilocybin's in sacred medicine. Also
included are appendices with a summary of all included recipes. |
Hallucinogenic
and Poisonous Mushroom: Field Guide
by Gary P. Menser, Gery P. Menser
A well written and easy to understand book which clearly defines each
type of mushroom with illustrations and photographs (in the appendix). It
shows how to identify and distinguish between poisonous and hallucinogenic
mushrooms (a vital skill). It also gives details on habitat. A useful
reference guide. The only extra bit of advice I would give those thinking
of ingesting hallucinogenic mushrooms is to always keep a sample in case
something goes wrong so they can easily be identified. If in doubt don't
pick. This book will certainly help reduces the confusion between similar
looking psychotropic and poisonous mushrooms.

Pihkal:
A Chemical Love Story
by Alexander Shulgin, Alexander Shulgin, Ann Shulgin,
David E. Nichols
While the story itself is rather interesting, the last section of
PIHKAL ('book II') is the true star. It's not a story...it's a list of
aprox. 200 psychoactive and potentially psychoactive drugs, each lovingly
described as to structure, synthesis, dosage, and effects. Each item is
based on the core skeleton of phenyl-ethyl amine, which Shulgin
laboriously explored at virtually every point, substitutive alkyl groups,
thio groups, halides, etc. (Methoxy ring substituents are especially
popular in his work.) The result is an astonishing array of hallucinogens,
amphetamines, and some seemingly inert materials. While he is perhaps best
known for his work on MDMA, the drug that would later gain infamy as the
illegal drug 'ecstasy', it will surprise most readers to discover that
MDMA is only one of an entire family of psychoactive drugs, each with
their own sometimes subtle, sometimes astonishing differences. A truly
extraordinary, landmark work for the pharmacologist, or simply those
curious about psychoactive drugs from a more technical, exploratory
stance. (That said, if you wouldn't know a carbon atom from a Honda Civic,
you'll still like the biographical part, which is anything but dry and
technical.)

research, personal accounts, and popular literature to document the
properties attributed to psychedelic substances, their preparation and
use, and the shifting social attitudes toward them over the past
half-century. Psychedelics Encyclopedia is a remarkable sourcebook for
anyone interested in the psychological, biological, physiological and
cultural aspects of psychedelic drugs. A fascinating historical reference
on psychedelic,
psychoactive mushrooms, the MDA cluster, yage and harmaline, ibogaine,
short-acting tryptamines (DMT, DET, DPT), nootropics, and other
psychoactive substances. Each is treated with respect to its history,
botany, pharmacology, physical effects, mental effects, forms, sources,
purity tests,. Included are biographies, updates, and bibliographies for
further research and studies. Psychedelics Encyclopedia is the seminal
reference work.
